The US Academy included Sadyk Sher-Niyaz's Kurmanjan Datka: Queen of the Mountains among 83 entries for Best Foreign Language Film (87th Academy Awards). The film opened in Bishkek on 31 August 2014, Independence Day. It was not nominated.
