Taalaibek Kulmendeev

Director, Producer, Screenwriter

Film director and producer. He has worked in cinema since 1990, starting as a production administrator and serving as production manager on «Buranny Polustanok». He studied at a two-year film academy in Rome (from 2001). He was deputy chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of Kyrgyzstan, ran the House of Cinema for five years, headed the Kyrgyzfilm studio for three years and later chaired the Union of Cinematographers (until January 2026). Honoured Cultural Worker of the Kyrgyz Republic. His directing debut, Munabia (2017), adapted from a novella by Kazat Akmatov, won the Grand Prix and best screenplay at Kinoshok (2018) and the Grand Prix at the Eurasian Creative Guild Film Festival in London (2021). Home for Sale (2022) premiered at Busan and was Kyrgyzstan's Oscar submission. His historical drama Jusup, about Jusup Abdrakhmanov, was released in 2026. Producer of Strast (2013) and Pereezd (2014).
